Mrs Vassiliki Koumpli, RESOLVE Mediators Associate, participated as an Expert Assessor in IBA-VIAC CDRC Mediation and Negotiation Competition Vienna 2019

Mrs Vassiliki Koumpli, Resolve Mediators & ADR Experts Associate, participated as an Expert Assessor in IBA-VIAC CDRC Mediation and Negotiation Competition Vienna (6-10 July 2019).

The competition simulates legal negotiations with the support of a mediator. Students compete by negotiating a series of real world legal problems based on the case of the Willem C. Vis Moot. The competition is focused on the students’ ability to utilize negotiation and mediation skills and strategies to successfully negotiate or mediate a settlement that best serves the needs of the parties.

The rise of Consensual Dispute Resolution (CDR) processes such as mediation and negotiation mark a new era of party driven dispute handling and will play a critical role in the dispute resolution field of the future. The International Bar Association, the Vienna International Arbitral Centre and the European Law Student’s Association have thus joined forces to establish an international student competition for Consensual Dispute Resolution – the CDRC Vienna.

The team of Expert Assessors, consists of experienced international professionals with a strong background in mediation or negotiation, such as in-house counsel, mediators, lawyers, mediation trainers, negotiation trainers, academics and government representatives. As an Expert Assessor, mrs Koumpli’s mission is to work closely with about 150 students from around the world, score their performance and help them excel and improve throughout the competition by providing them with valuable individualized feedback after each mediation session.
